I have to admit that I have been watching films lately for the purpose of entertainment, no interpretation needed, just sheer enjoyment. This week we watched two interesting films: Reign Over Me and Blades of Glory.

The Simpsons Movie. True to its TV reputation, the movie has all the wit and humor that adults will find amusing and children funny. I've read from somewhere that it got the ire of some Catholics on the scene (oops! spoilers) where Homer was leafing through the pages of the bible hoping to find answers. I liked the movie's rendition of the Titanic scene where the barge sunk drowning the band, the ala-Brokeback Mountain scene, the Itchy/ Hillary '08 campaign slogan, President S and the Bambi and birds ensemble.
From now on, or for as long as I can keep it, I will make Friday my "word power" day. I got inspired after reading Sassy Lawyer's article in the Manila Standard about 100 words that every high school graduate should know according to the editors of the American Heritage Dictionaries.
After reading the list I went, hwaaat? I mean, am I really expected to know all that? Then I started asking Mr. Webster what some of the alien-sounding words meant only to find out that they were not even as highfalutin as they seemed- just a little pompous for small minds like mine...Either that or my reading habits has never really matured, much so my choice of reading materials. Oh well, that's another BIG project to work into. Let me just start with this one.

In Roxie's vocabulary:
Extensively known as: to sanitize or censor (1) used liberally when passing information to highly sensitive people who jump at words even before digesting the whole message and analyzing it side by side with other vital information (2) exercised primarily when playing message bearer to warring couples, at-odds bosses and parents-children tandems with generation-gap issues.
Example #1: Boss1: Am I the only one thinking here? Relaying the same message to Boss2: The boss says we should also consider other options.
Example #2: Parent: Why does she keep on pulling her pants down, I can almost see her privates in that outfit! Relaying the message to the Daughter: You mom says you look better having your pants up to your waist and not on your hips, masks your bulges *winks*
Example #3: Girlfriend: And he dumped me for that big fat hag? Relaying the message to the ex-boyfriend: She says it's just sad that you had a change of heart.
I came across the music of John Legend while watching my hubby's fav series, Las Vegas. The latest season has been guesting artists of different genres to caters to the mood of every episode. John's song featured in the show was Slow Dance which I instantly liked. And so we looked him up and got hold of his album.
Coming Home. Been listening to the song for days now and it tears my heart to think of how painful it must be to send your son to fight for a war that you don't even believe in. To be constantly waiting for updates, be it good or bad. And to not lose hope despite the odds.
It's Monday again...woke up at 4:30am, bathed... headed for the pier for another boat ride back to Iloilo. Everything at the terminal was a blur to me. All I knew was that I was to board the boat with more than a hundred passengers who go over a thousand things in their heads who would not have taken this early morning trip had there been no work, school or whatever stuff to attend to. Sigh Sigh Sigh...
Gloomy weather today, no big waves though (thank God!). Nonetheless, the lack of sleep and the lingering thoughts of the weekend did make me groggy. I slept for the most part of the trip and woke up just in time for disembarking. Reality slipped into my lucid state with the voices of trisikad, tricycle and taxi drivers offering their services (for a fee of course!). I shook my head even before they could ask. Then I heard one say, "tuyo pa man ni sila" (parang antok pa ata ang mga 'to!) . I smiled and muttered to myself, "correct ka dyan!"
We took a tricycle ride home. When I made it to the front door, I acted in my zombie-like character, grabbed a bite, did my toilet routine, fixed my things, made my way to the office, cleaned my desk and PC then I sat... and stared at my pc... some white noise drowning the early morning office conversations... I need something to perk up my senses... Ah! coffee!
Still trying to get over the songs that I heard from the movie Music and Lyrics. I came across this one, again, after watching the movie Because I Said So last night...
Love Autopsy
Figuring out you and me Is like doing a love autopsy They could operate all day long And never figure out what went wrong Love autopsy Love autopsy
Bonni, the hubby's long time friend invited us to his daughter's christening and his mom's bday celebration in their hometown, Numancia. I've heard a lot of good stories from the hubby about their fishing escapades and their drinking sprees with friends. And I was told that there's a cool resort nearby which we could visit.
Here are the 10 things that I brought home with me...
